3rd June 1859

From the Journal of Lt. Lempriere, RE, from the trail near Hope.

3rd Friday – Breakfasted at 5 a.m. and left my camp with the Indians and muleteer and rode into Fort Hope: It took is 8 ½ hours getting in, only dismounted once for a quarter of an hour to eat some biscuits and drink a little water which was all we had for our dinner.

Note: As we have done some period traveling, we were surprised to see how little, ration-wise, appears to have been taken along on this Survey.  We wonder if it is the usual way of things or if perhaps they were under Commissaried?
